7 keys to a great relationship

Watch “7 keys to a great relationship” by clicking on the title or picture below:

This video illustrates seven essential requirements of having a fantastic relationship.

1. Respect is the fundamental requirement for a good relationship. Contempt, on the other hand, will destroy a relationship. Body language and tone of voice are key in being respectful.

2. Be considerate without being overly accommodating. You shouldn’t ignore your own needs and desires or do things that you really don’t want to do.

3. Discuss problems without venting. Don’t talk non-stop about unimportant details and don’t attack the other person. You don’t want to bring down the relationship or bore the other person with trivialities and negativity.

4. Remain calm. Don’t become reactive or defensive even if the other person is angry or over-reacting. It only takes one person to keep things positive or at least prevent hostility.

5. Pursue your own passions. You don’t have to do everything together. Also don’t diminish the other person’s interests or sports.

6. Keep the romance, fun, and passion alive. Don’t allow your relationship to become mundane and ordinary.

7. Appreciate the good in the other person. Don’t be over-critical and don’t focus on the flaws. By appreciating the good in the other person, you tend to bring out the best in the other person and in the relationship.

  1. Hi Alison,

I enjoyed seeing you in this video.

This is a topic that I am really interested in so I want to give you constructive feedback about the video.

It would be great if there was a blurb highlighting the main points of the video for the sake of impact.

I found the video hard to follow because of distracting camera shake, subjects moving and inconsistent sound quality .

I really want the information you are giving in this video, but I found the video to be so distracting I was unable to focus on receiving the information.

also, in the first minute of the video there was a flashing red ad saying “your prison records are online” with mugshots of down and outs. It was very hard to listen to your soothing voice and hear your information when this ad was flashing over your face.

I suggest putting the camera on a tripod and have you sitting still and focused in a simple environment. Ideally indoors so you can control sound quality.

You can then accent your points through the dramatized videos, but the main points would be best delivered through calm and clear clips of you.

also, it would be worth investigating how you can post videos without ads.

I love reading your articles, they are always very timely and poignant.

I hope to see you someday,

    Love Rose

    • Hi Rose,

I really appreciate the time you took to give me your input. I am obviously not a pro at videoing but am learning through people’s reactions. I did just order a good mike and a real video camera so I can shoot inside without getting that interior echo.
      Thanks again!!
      Alison

  2. Hi, I just watched your other videos, and I see that you have already done the things i suggested. So NEVERMIND 🙂
    Rose
